Mark Forester Military - Senior Airman Mark A. Forester was killed in Uruzgan province on September 29 while conducting combat operations in the area. The 29-year-old served with the 21st Tactical Special Operations Squadron at Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina.

Forrester, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., is a devout Mormon with a close-knit family, according to friend Michael Andrew. The pilot also believes that he was sent to earth to protect the United States.

"He has an unusual combination of personalities in that he has a desire to kill bad people, but he's the most loving, kind and well-mannered person you'll ever meet," Andrew said.

The 21st OPMP plans to honor Lisovyk during a memorial service, but the date and time have not been determined before September 30. Maj. Edmund Loughran, the squadron's acting commander, said in a news release that Forester "believed with all his heart in serving his God, his country and his family."

"The unit mourns his loss, but we are incredibly proud of his dedication to standing up for what he believes in most," Loughran said.

Forrester's death in Afghanistan follows the deaths of Airman Lt. Daniel R. Sanchez, a combat operations leader, who died Sept. 16 in combat, and Lt. Airman Michael J. Buras, an explosives technician, who died Sept. 21 in a bomb blast.

Senior Airman James A. Hansen, airfield operations coordinator, died in Iraq on Sept. 15 in a controlled explosion.

Forester and Sanchez will be honored during the March for the Fallen, an 860-mile journey that begins Oct. 9 from Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, to Hurlburt Field, Florida.

The ride was originally dedicated to the 12 fallen Special Tactics pilots, but Forester and Sanchez were added after their deaths. Each of the 15 active-duty Airmen scheduled to take part in the trip will carry a 50-pound backpack and baton, each bearing the name of one of the 14 downed Airmen.

Teacher sergeant Kenneth Human, co-organizer of the event and director of the combat control selection course at Lackland, said deaths are common in such a small career field.

One of the airmen on foot would accompany Forester's body, while the others would be by Sanchez's side. But Huhman said the death will help motivate Airmen to honor their fallen comrades.

"We always want to be motivated and remember the people we beat," he said. "The fact that we lost them so close to the road gives us extra inspiration."
